Your Test Is Tomorrow. Here’s What to Do (If You Have to Cram)

Your test is tomorrow. There’s too much to cover, not enough time, and you need something that actually works.

Step 1: Remove Your Phone

Put your phone in another room.

Not on your desk. Not face down. Out of reach.

Attention is your limiting factor right now. Even small distractions will break it.

Step 2: Study One Thing at a Time

Pick a topic and work through it fully.

Don’t jump around. Don’t multitask.

You want depth, not scattered exposure.

Step 3: Take Breaks Whenever You Need—But Do Nothing

This is the part most people get wrong. When you feel your focus drop, take a break.

But during the break: Do nothing.

No scrolling. No music. No texting. Just sit. Or lie down. Or stare at the wall.

Why This Works

When you stop and remove stimulation, two things happen:

First, your brain starts processing what you just studied. It organizes and strengthens the information instead of immediately replacing it with new input. Second, your attention resets.

Most breaks (TikTok, Instagram, etc.) overstimulate your brain. That makes it harder to return to studying, because everything else now feels slow and effortful. When you actually rest, your baseline drops. And when you go back, studying feels easier to engage with.

At first, doing nothing will feel uncomfortable. You’ll want to check your phone or fill the silence. Give it a minute. Your brain adjusts quickly, and your focus comes back stronger.

Don’t overcomplicate it. Just protect your attention.

One More Thing: Sleep Matters More Than You Think

Do not pull an all-nighter!! Even if it feels like more time = better results, it doesn’t work that way.

Sleep is when your brain:

  • consolidates what you studied

  • strengthens memory

  • clears out mental fatigue

If you skip sleep, you might recognize things you reviewed but you’ll struggle to recall them clearly, think through problems, or stay focused during the test. A few extra hours of tired studying is almost always worse than being rested.
